Les jardins suspendu – Hanging Gardens on the River Spree

A labyrinth of gardens at different levels and locations helps improve orientation within the building. Imaginative, artificial, and natural looking patios, atriums, and terraces provide space for various uses and for contemplation and sensual perception. The subtle play of light and shadows as well as the use of both open and closed space gives the open space its character. Expansive views of the surroundings and of the sky, references to objects within the space itself, the use of water, and the scent of jasmine are the themes of the ‘hanging gardens’. Growth and the changing seasons convey feelings of evolution and transition. Bamboo and flowing water serve as a contrast to tightly pruned topiary, lending the space an element of dynamism.
