Olympia - The Transformation of Existing Conditions

Derived from the concept of Olympic and other sports venues in the city, urban public open areas were embedded in the metropolitan landscape as stations along the way from the centres of Olympic activity to places where people meet. Through selective accentuation, expansion, and new design, streets were turned into venues. The plaza-like function of the Olympische Boulevard (hard surface) complemented the open space of the green ring (soft). Existing parks were to be improved and extended. New bus stations with floral design roofs as well as small buildings on the ring were indications of complementary interventions.
