Hanover | Opera Square

Opera Square

The design chosen resulted in a square that has clear structures and easily identifiable landscape elements. In making a connection to the city’s classicist surroundings and its history of gardens, the grounds were made both greener and more open. As a result of the design, the Operndreieck (triangular area surrounding the opera) received a completely new character and was integrated into its surroundings. In the first phase of construction, new lawn areas and embroidered parterres with hedges were added, providing space for relaxation and contemplation. The hedges took the form of arabesques, so well known in design, music, dance and literature, thus making a strong connection to the opera while making an unambiguous association with the embroidered parterres at the Herrenhausen Gardens.
